Finally getting to Braxton's birthday! Yay! Our little Braxton turned 3 this year, crazy how time is just flying now! We celebrated his birthday on the Saturday following his birthday so our family could come visit.
Braxton on his actual "birth" day. The best picture I could get with his wild personality.
The cute invite I had my mom make for Braxton's party. :)
So his theme this year for his birthday was airplanes because he LOVES airplanes! I was determined to figure out how to make him an airplane cake. I googled some ideas to help my creative thinking and I asked a couple of my wonderful cake baking friends for tips and ideas. After google and all the tips I received it was time to make the cake. One of my friends was genius and said to bake the cake a few days beforehand and freeze it after you set it the way you want it to look. That way when you carve it into an airplane shape the cake won't fall apart, genius! I would have never thought of that!
So my friend let me borrow her cake pan, it's a bit longer than a normal 9x13 cake pan. It took about 3 boxes of cake mix.
After cutting it in half I iced one half and stuck the other half on top. I was surprised I was able to flip it on top by myself without breaking the top half. Phew!
Time to freeze it for a couple of days.
It was the night before the party and time to get the cake done. My mom was here to help me out, and boy what a help she was!
First step was to carve it, it actually was quite fun carving it and it was fun to see how the cake wasn't falling apart too, so cool! lol
After carving the cake, we put it back in the freezer to help it freeze for a bit longer. While that was freezing, it was time to hang up the decorations! Jackson was a great sport at getting on the ladder and hanging up all the airplanes and clouds. My mom made all the streamers a certain length and stapled everything together. What a team! I apologize now for the next few pictures that were taken that night. My camera was set on manual, so every single picture I took that evening were blurry because I was suppose to focus the camera and not the camera itself. Usually the camera does all the focusing, but somehow the camera got set to manual. I have no idea how that happened. I'm just glad I figured it out the morning of the party that the camera wasn't focusing, phew! Another relief.
Hanging up the airplanes and clouds.
Braxton's reaction to the decorations the next morning, sad it was blurry but at least I can kind of see his reaction.
Thankfully I looked at the pictures of the table I was taking and noticed something was not right and set the settings back to automatic, phew! Again I am so glad I noticed it was taking blurry pictures.
The table all done and ready for lunch!
The airplane cake all done! We used fondant, and let me tell ya, that is some hard stuff to use. As hard and as much of a pain as it was to use, I truly am glad we used it, even though I know my mom would of rather us just iced it. I think it looked great! For being our first time using fondant, it looked great. Just don't look closely! :)
Happy 3rd Birthday Pilot Braxton!
Sign for our front door. All of our signs were made by my mom since she is so creative plus, I don't have a printer. Thanx mom!
Pin the propeller on the airplane.
My mom made this sign for me as well, thanx mom for fulfilling my last minute request!
The finished product with all the decorations! Turned out great!
Time for lunch!
Time for games!
I'm so glad Linc came! He was a couple years older and was great about playing the game first to show Braxton and his friend Mason how to play the game. Thanx Linc!
Braxton wanting another turn at it.
Time to throw our home made paper airplanes into the holes. We could have kept score but they are only three and they enjoyed just throwing them in!
Grandma Plott and Greyson, a kid with many facial reactions!
The kids saw me put my head in the circle and wanted to do the same thing. :)
Time for presents.
A train from Greyson, a wonderful yard sale find! :)
Grandpa Plott with Greyson now.
Yummy snacks for our car rides from Linc! Braxton loved it and wanted to dig in to all the yummy candy and snacks at that very moment!
Baseball stuff from our neighbor Mason! A great gift for him since he started Tee ball this year!
Toy airplanes from Grandma and Grandpa Hawkins! He's all about the airplanes, that's for sure!
Pajamas from Grandma and Grandpa Plott, just what my growing boy needed! Braxton is growing too fast and is wearing 4T and 5 year old clothes. He's huge for being only a 3 year old!
This year, daddy and mommy saved up to buy him a bike, sadly, due to him being so tall and the size of a 5 year old, we had to get a pretty big bike for him to grow into more to get our moneys worth out of it. We're hoping it will work for him and his little brother for many years! It came with training wheels and pedals but he doesn't quite understand those yet, so those were taken off until he can figure out the balancing part of biking and walking around with it. I had him try it with pedals at the bike store before we bought it a few months ago and he didn't comprehend the pedals yet. I'm sure we'll be putting them on sooner than we think.
Loved this picture of all the boys playing.
Time for cake!
LOVE this picture! How did I get so lucky to get a picture of him like this looking at the camera even! I'm thinking he liked his cake! :)
Braxton loves the song happy birthday this year compared to his first two birthdays when it scared him and he cried the whole time. He'll sing it all the time whenever he thinks about it. He loves cake and candles, he's all for birthday cakes this year!
Since he loves the happy birthday song so much, we lit the candles a few more times and sang happy birthday as well and had his friends take a turn at blowing out the candles!
I loved Greyson's face in this picture, he was so excited about the lit up candles.
Time to take the cake apart, I always forget to get a picture of me and the finished cake so we hurried and snapped one before we cut into it. Once again, thanx mom for all your help with the fondant, it was a lot of work but great success!
Greyson's face in these next two pictures just crack me up!
Time for some of the friends to leave, so we had a little thank you bag for them to take with them!
Grandma helping Braxton put on his shoes so he can go outside and try out his new toy airplanes.
After everyone left, including my parents, Jackson and I were exhausted and were falling asleep on the couch. Jackson, my mom and I were literally up till the crack of dawn getting things done for the party so while Jackson, Greyson, and I napped, Grandma and Grandpa Plott volunteered to take Braxton for a walk! Thank you soooo much! That nap was very needed! In fact I volunteered last minute to pick up a night shift that night at 11 p.m. so I really needed the sleep.
Some pictures of Grandma and Grandpa Plott out walking!
Thanx again for all those that could come and celebrate Braxton's birthday with us! And thank you for all the wonderful gifts! It was a lot of fun! And everything turned out just as planned! Happy 3rd birthday to our little Braxton, we love you!!
