The reason I show so many of the same shot for Braxton is because he was getting excited and it shows him lifting his arms up and making facial expressions getting all sorts of excited which I thought was cute. There will be a couple other ones just like that where he gets all excited and shows different facial expressions.
So now that we've picked out our pumpkins, it is time to carve them! I was originally going to do only 3, one for each of us, but someone sent me a cute idea for babies, so Braxton gets two.
So I like to be creative and try new things when I carve pumpkins. I come up with my own design by looking at coloring sheets online and re-drawing it to be a type of pumpkin carving. In the previous years I've been known to do monkeys...
...but this year I wanted to try something new, so I asked people on facebook for some ideas and the idea that I liked the most was tinker-bell. So I drew a really good design but because there was so much detail with tinker-bell I didn't have the right tools for carving all that detail. So when I started to do it, I used the smallest tool I had, which was still not small enough and I screwed it up. I might have been able to save it but the first two spots I carved, which are always the eyes, ran into her eyebrows and hair so it just all got screwed up. I was really disappointed in myself. And than the design that Jackson wanted that I made for him as well wasn't working out either. Frustration! I was getting so disappointed in myself and frustrated. Jackson did most of the work but at least I was able to help save his pumpkin. I made Jackson's design so close to other points that Jackson was afraid pieces were going to fall or break off. While Jackson continued working on his, I decided to set my pumpkin aside and work on Braxton's until I could get some smaller tools and later decide what I was gonna do with mine. Luckily Braxton's designs that I came up with were easy and completed with no struggle. So the next night I came up with a new carving idea because I wasn't sure I wanted to try another tinker-bell in fear I would screw it up again, and just incase I couldn't find the small tools needed to put so much detail into it. Luckily I did find some amazing small tools that would work but I still just stuck with the new design I came up with. Thank goodness pumpkins have 3 other sides to use. Maybe next year I'll be able to do a tinker-bell. I was really distraught about it, I'm not the type to give up on something and quit but I was getting really frusturated. I needed to get this pumpkin carved and was running out of time.
So here is my screwed up tinker-bell for that night. So depressing, maybe next time.
Jackson finishing up his. His took a lot of work too that he didn't finish his up either that night.
So the next day we finished Jackson's pumpkin and took pictures of it along with the two smaller ones with Braxton.
Braxton checking out our nice work all lit up!
After getting Braxton to bed, I faithfully worked on my new design. I think it took about 3-4 hours.
Ta Da! Thank goodness for small tools! It's not the best side of the pumpkin but it looks great in the dark all lit up!
So can you guess which pumpkins are who's? ;) The frog below is "Hopkins" from "Baby Signing Time" one of Braxton's favorite shows which is why I chose the frog! Braxton loves the baby frog from signing time or maybe just signing time in general! Than the other pumpkin that is kind of a face is made out of Braxton's feet and hands. Than of course we have the state of Texas, you could only guess who's pumpkin that is. When Jackson first asked me to come up with a design for him that has the state of Texas and the flag. I thought he was joking so I never made him a design until the very last minute when he said he was serious and showed me a picture/layout for me to follow. He wanted it to show some color too of course but I'm not that talented. Some people can cave a pumpkin so it lights up different ways but I'm not that talented. I thought they all turned out pretty good for the most part.
The design I followed for Texas
Here are all of the pumpkins! I'm quite pleased with all of them, even though we had some bumps along the way and it took longer than expected, they are done!! Love pumpkin carving, a chance to get creative!
